It's Saturday - it must be Glasgow

Well, Venice is done for now. Got some amazing pictures of the Grand Canal, and
a few of the lesser travelled places around the islands. Pics to follow, when I finally get a computer that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and comes with a USB connection.

What to say about Venice? Well - it's definitely a mecca for tourists. Definitely worth staying once it gets dark though. The guide books all seem to describe it as not having much of a nightlife - but what they consider nightlife seems to be "clubbing." For those of you so inclined as to just sit in a restaurant and have a cocktail or two, there seems to be plenty of places to do just that. Plus, most of the tourists seem to leave the streets at night, so it's much quieter / calmer.

Quintessential ( / Stereotypical ) Venice:
1. Carnevale Masks
2. Murano Glass
3. Gondola Rides

1. Check. However, given my baggage limitations and the fragility of papier mache, I got a fairly small one.

2. Check. Most glass vendors, however, seem to hawk cheap knock offs as well as authentic stuff. Buyer beware.

3. Gondola prices being what they are ( > 80 euros for 50 minutes), we took the "poor person's gondola" tour. Buying a 12 euro ticket to the ACTV gets you 24 hours of access to all water buses and land buses, and some of the water buses go along the grand canal. Not as peaceful as a gondola through the narrow back canal ways perhaps, but still a nice trip.

Bree and I are currently in Stansted Airport, waiting for 5 hours or so until our flight leaves to Glasgow. One night / half a day there, then it's off to the Isle of Arran, and then Edinburgh.

More later.
